Botulinum toxin type A is used in aesthetic dermatology to treat hyperactivity of the mimic muscles, which leads to the formation of persistent wrinkles in the upper part of the face.

The medication is administered intramuscularly in very small doses, which are individually adjusted for each patient.

The most commonly corrected areas are: the area between the eyebrows, forehead, around the eyes, and neck. Botulinum toxin type A is also used to treat bruxism and localized hyperhidrosis (e.g., underarms, hands, and feet).

The first effects of the procedure are visible 24 hours to 3 days after administration. Full correction is observed 14-30 days post-treatment (after which a follow-up visit can be scheduled to assess the results).

The duration of the botulinum toxin’s effects depends on individual body characteristics (on average, 3-6 months). During this time, facial expressions gradually return.

Even if the patient cannot undergo further treatments, the nearly six-month period of skin resting from wrinkle-inducing movements results in a younger, more refreshed facial appearance.
